Spine & Core Stablization
If you are in acute pain, the initial goal is to stabilize the painful area. We want to protect your back or neck by teaching you how to find relief positions that take strain off the painful area. For instance, you will be advised to avoid certain strenuous positions or movement, such as sitting or bend and twisting. This advice typically consist of prescribing limited activities and the use pain-relieving methods (ice, heat, ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, manipulation, massage, traction, etc.). A support may be given and bed rest recommended, but this regimen is used for the minimum time possible to decrease the danger of reconditioning (becoming excessively weak or stiff).
Perhaps most important is the reassurance that you will receive that you condition has been evaluated thoroughly and that you do not have any serious medical conditions. If you do have a disk syndrome, which is resulting in pressure on a nerve, a diagnosis will be made and appropriate treatment will be initiated.
